Chautauqua County Web Map

This web application displays the trails systems, trailheads, and nearby amenities in Chautauqua County, New York in an interactive format. The panel on the left allows you to zoom to the varying trail systems throughout the County to explore it's trails. The tabs on the right of the web app display the following:

Chautauqua County boasts over 250 miles of recreational trails. The panel on the left groups the trails into seven categories, primarily based on each trail's manager. Selecting a category then lists the trail systems in the selected category. Further selecting a trail system will provide more information about each system, and will pan and zoom the map to the selected trails.

Because the Overland Trails, Rail Trails, and the Chautauqua County Equestrian Trail System at Boutwell Hill span across multiple land managers, we have provided separate selection buttons for these categories as well.

Users can also browse the trails by directly panning (by the mouse pointer) and zooming (by the mouse roller) and clicking on selected trails in view. Applicable information about the selected trail is then provided in the left panel. Upon zooming into a specific trail system, parking/trailhead areas will appear (“P” icons) as well as nearby amenities such as parks and businesses (star icons)

To use the map to only present trails available for a specific use, the dropdown selections at the top can be used to filter which trails appear. More than one trail use filter can be selected at the same time. To clear a selection, click on the X that appears when a selection is active.
